Bio

Dr. Hicks has over 20 years of experience in the emergency services, occupational safety, and fire protection fields.  He is an Associate Professor for the Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology Program at EKU. He also serves as the Chief of the White Hall Fire Department in Madison County, KY.  Dr.  Hicks is a member of the Madison County Rescue Squad and serves as the Search and Rescue Coordinator for the Madison County Emergency Management Agency. He has completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire & Safety Engineering Technology, with emphasis in Fire, Arson & Explosion Investigation, Minor in Police Studies.  Mr. Hicks also has received a Master’s of Science in Loss Prevention & Safety, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.  Bill is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program, and holds the Chief Fire Officer Designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence (Formerly ICHIEFS). Mr. Hicks serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Fire Investigators, and is also serves on the Board of Directors of the NFPA’s Fire Science & Technology Educators Section. Mr. Hicks is an amateur radio operator and serves as the Assistant Section Emergency Coordinator for Amateur Radio Emergency Services in Kentucky Region 5.  Dr. Hicks is married with two “daughters”, both Australian Shepherds.
